TERM 4 MARK CUT-OFF: FRIDAY, JUNE 17TH

English 12
Provincial Exam Prep
1. Original Comp practice essay ("Emotions") due at 830am.
2. Synthesis Practice Essay #2
- read "The Most Powerful Question a Parent Can Ask" + MC questions
- read "Be-ers and Doers" + MC questions
3. Prep essay (Assess which passage shows the more respectful approach to children).
- you must refer to both passages and address the topic (6-8 quotations)
- theme statement: how the texts are similar (ex. Parenting can be challenging).
- thesis statement: how the texts are different and address the topic (ex. While Miller's "TMPQAPCA" and Wilson's "BaD" illustrate ways to raise a child, Miller's text contains the more respectful approach).
- multi-paragraph, use transitional words and phrases (in particular, compare and contrast words)
- should be mechanical-error and format-error free

1. Homework check: 1.5 Resource management.
- if you haven't already, complete questions #1-12 (Textbook: p. 34-35, 37-38, 307-8, 324).
1b. Documentary: "The Canadian Shield".
2. Continue reviewing and prepping essay (Describe three regions of Canada and how their geography has impacted their development and population. - geologic formation, resources - development and settlement - risks faced).
3. Unit 1 booklet due tomorrow. Unit 1 test tomorrow.
4. Unit 1 written/essay due Friday.

Final Exam Prep
1. Synthesis Practice Essay #2 ("The Cargo Hulks" vs. "Breaking Ships").
- read each text and answer multiple choice.
- prep essay outline (theme, thesis, 6-8 quotations from both texts).
2. Tomorrow: In-Class Synthesis Essay (due at the end of Thursday's class).
