1. Finish article analyses 1-3. You should be able to have all 4 completed by the end of tomorrow's class.
2. When you are done your article analyses (due March 13th), work on your book review & character sketch (due March 15th). Both your review and character sketch should be about one page, double-spaced.

1. Overture considerations:
A. In what ways is the play historically accurate? In what ways is it not? Are these inaccuracies important?
B. Act I: What does the description of the room say about the nature of the town?
C. A two-man patrol was sent out on Sundays in order to check on those who were not attending Church, in order to punish them for their delinquent behaviour. What does this detail tell us about the nature of the community in Salem? Why do you they care if others don't attend church?
D. Explain the significance of the following quotes:
"In unity still lay the best promise of safety."
"...the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom."
2. Begin reading Act I (page 8-21) - study questions (#1-4) & vocabulary handout.
