Using 8-10 quotations (I, I, C, E), and referencing at least one theme, respond to ONE of the following prompts:

A. What aspects of Puritan society in 1692 enabled the witch trials to take place? What elements transcend time and place and make witch hunts (or the equivalents) a danger in any era?
B. Judge Danforth’s court was problematic for many reasons. Describe three problematic principles of his court and why they were unjust.

C. Reputation plays a significant role in The Crucible. Describe how reputation and one’s name contribute to what takes place. Which characters put great value on their reputations? Which characters do not seem to ascribe much weight to reputation?

D. John Proctor is an immensely complex protagonist. Over the course of the play, he struggles with guilt, anger, his entitlement to his freedom, and a profound desire for justice. However, by the end, he states that he sees “some shred of goodness” in himself (144). Using examples from the text, describe John Proctor’s emotional trajectory and how he changes over the course of the play.
