A. Describe how and why the firemen came into being and the rationale given by Beatty for making books illegal and burning them. Explain any underlying reasons or motivations for censorship that are implied, but not directly stated, in the text.
B. In the novel, Montag is a sympathetic protagonist; he is also at least partially responsible for multiple deaths. Using examples from the text, compare and contrast the killings in which Montag takes part. Does the novel seem to suggest that any of them are justified?
C. Fahrenheit 451 is widely regarded as a “dystopian” novel, one that critiques the notion of an ideal, free society and offers instead an exaggerated picture of alienation and control. Citing examples from the book, explain how Bradbury paints a picture of dystopian society through its use of technology, the restructuring of family and relationships, and censorship.
D. Using examples from the book compare and contrast Mildred and Clarisse. Describe the ideas and values each of them represents.
