2. Read: "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut, determine theme, identify lit devices
3. Complete: questions 1, 4, 9.
4. Homework (due tomorrow): Prepare outline for WAQ topic: Citing textual evidence, describe the theme(s) of Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron"

ex. theme statement: A truly equal society is not ideal.
ex. thesis statement: Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron" proves that an equal society is not ideal as it necessitates the sacrifice of individual freedom, beauty, and intellect.

1. In-Class Essay: Respond to the prompt "Canada is a democracy" by agreeing, disagreeing, or arguing that it's both.
2. Criteria:
- 5 paragraphs: Introduction (strong thesis statement, introduction of main points), 3 Body Paragraphs (topic sentence, main ideas, examples/evidence), and a Conclusion (summarize main points, re-state thesis in different words).
- paragraphs: should be 5-12 full sentences, grammatically correct, error free, clear, well-supported and accurate points, use of transitional words and phrases to increase flow and clarity.
- please double-space, write objectively, and write in blue or black ink.
